what's really odd is that the checksum and accompanying text is written in yellow in snes9x while all other patched roms (with or without command line) show up as white. it then showed up as good in both emulators but bad again via command line. I know users of the NES PowerPak (a CompactFlash system for playing INES images on the real NES) would love a ROM header fixer as well, since bunnyboy (the developer) has said time and time again that it's not feasible to do fixing on the NES hardware because it'd take way too long to do a CRC calculation and database lookup (and don't expect an NES XML parser, either). I then tried a gui, the 'fixed' rom showed up as bad, so I repaired it. Once upon a time there was a tool that could fix many (though not all) problems in ROM headers, but no such tool is available today (ertainly not a good one). I also occasionally do some of my own ROM hacking, and I hate it when I look at the top line of my hex editor and see "Okay, this game is mapper 4" only to learn that its register accesses are completely contradictory to the header designation (it ends up being mapper 68, for example).

I don't like it when I apply a translation/hack to a game only to have the game fail in Nestopia because it has a bad header and no longer matches a db entry (the Mac version doesn't support soft-patching). i keep getting a 'bad checksum error' in snes9x Started by uselessearthboundfan, January 09, 2023, 05:45:43 PM Previous topic - Next topic Print Go Down Pages 1 uselessearthboundfan Newbie Posts: 1 Logged January 09, 2023, 05:45:43 PM so recently, I decided I would try out an earthbound Romack that Romack being the 'earthbound enhanced' rom.

I also want a tool (preferably a cross-platform command-line tool) that will take a database input (such as the XML db that comes with Nestopia) and scan a ROM collection to fix bad headers and (if possible) upgrade to the NES 2.0 spec. I then tried a gui, the 'fixed' rom showed up as bad, so I repaired it.
